You’ve all seen their logo. Perhaps you’ve even sampled their freemium product. If you’re looking for a comprehensive music service, now is truly the time to give Spotify a try. Currently, there is a “Get 3 months of Premium for 0.99 CAD” promotion happening for new Canadians subscribers who have never tried their pay-for-use service. Spotify’s customer support is top-notch and assistance within associated online communities is easy to find.
Honestly? Sam is all about the CBC. But me? Not a huge fan of talk radio. And because I totally abhor silence, I always have something playing in the background — even when I’m sleeping. (No joke. I literally crave sound 24/7.) My tastes in music also tend to be a little on the eclectic side (running the gamut from Classical to Dub Step), so, as you can imagine, I am more than happy to pay for a service that consistently delivers on all levels. Switching from our old music service to Spotify was, and continues to be, a most excellent decision.
First Impression: Really clean design and great catalogue of music.
In Three Words: Sleek, User-friendly, Intuitive.
Cost: 9.99 CAD per month for regular Premium subscribers — otherwise you can use their service for free, but with limited customizability and ads playing approximately every three songs.
Best Feature: It’s super easy to add/remove music from your Songs list.
Excited About: Took about a week of loading new songs before I could stump their search feature. With Spotify Premium, your complete music collection is available offline.
Something Unexpected: As long as you don’t delete your basic account (username and password), your music library is kept safe and available should you ever choose to toggle back and forth through levels of service. EDIT: I just got a Samsung S7 edge and for a one time 1.99 CAD (plus taxes)fee, you can purchase one of the edge’s swipe-in “bookmarks” for Spotify. Load it with up to 10 of your favourite playlists through the Spotify app.
Value for Money: Because it’s web-based, your Spotify Premium account can be accessed from anywhere in the world using a smart device, tablet, or computer with internet access. Can’t beat that for 32 cents a day!
