I Heart Guac

Since discovering the joy that is avocado, I’ve been trying to come up with a snack-sized guacamole recipe, all our own.

I Heart Guac

GuacINGREDIENTS:

1-2 tbsp finely diced onions

6 grape or cherry tomatoes, finely diced

3 tbsp hemp hearts

1/2 large avocado (or one whole small)

1-2 tbsp finely chopped fresh cilantro (Don’t know how to chiffonade? See video below!)

Fresh ground salt and pepper, to taste

Optional: Add a bit of finely diced jalapeno or a few drops of sriracha sauce for some heat.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONS: Scoop avocado into a bowl and mash. Add all other ingredients. Stir until well combined. Chill. Serve with tortilla chips or spread on toast. Yields just over a cup and a bit of guacamole goodness.

 

Kitchen Notes
  • Loving the texture and hit of onion! (Use any type of cooking onion for a strong flavour. Spring onions or chives are best for something more subtle.) The cilantro really adds a “freshness” to this spread.
  • On the whole, a pretty easy recipe to follow. Just use a sharp knife, finely dice the ingredients — and review the video above if you are not familiar with the term “chiffonade.”
  • Hemp hearts add some easy vegetable protein!

    1. I know someone else who is really affected by food textures and am thankful it has never been an issue for me. Granted, everyone has their food “thing” — items they can’t or won’t eat — me included. 😉
